Set it up to ping you, so you always know where they are, whenever you need to know.
All you need is for your children to have the FamiLeash app installed on their Android phone.
Install it on your phone and you will have a nice map interface to see their whereabouts directly on your phone.
Can even be used to find a missing or stolen phone.
The sender/beacon part can be puchased for free 'FamiLeash Free' and is available for Android version 1.6 and above.
The full app is developed for Android version 2.3.
Sender/Beacon
- type your childs name
- type your own phone number
- set the duration: 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, ½ day, 1 day
- set days (eg. Monday-Friday)
- set the interval (eg. 8AM-5PM)
- set if you want to be able to send a poke to the phone from your FamiLeash app
- set a password, so the child can't mingle with the settings
- press start and FamiLeash will silently ping you in the selected duration and interval.
Receiver
- a nice map/sat view, where you can see the whereabouts of your children
- if you have their picture and phone number in your contacts, their face will appear on the map.
- silent notifications or with sound and/or vibration, whenever you receive a position.
- you can tap directly on their 'face' and send a poke to get their latest position.
- a blue circle around the position will tell you the accuracy.
Function
- if you set the duration to 1 hour and set the inteval to eg. 8:15AM-10:00AM, FamiLeash will send positions at 8:15 and 9:15...
- if you set the duration to ½ day or 1 day, the 'interval to' is set automatically
(eg. ½ day, from: 8:15AM to: 8:15PM)
- FamiLeash communicates by text messages, so you can be charged by your phone company depending on your and your childrens subscription- only normal text charge.
- if you do not have FamiLeash installed, you will receive normal text messages. These can be clicked on your smartphone and will show the position in google maps.
- if you send 'BEACON2ME' in a text to a phone where FamiLeash is installed, 'Return pokes' is checked and your phone number is in the phone field. It will return its position.
Security and warnings
- only if the 'Return pokes' is checked and the phone with the number typed in the phone field sends a poke, FamiLeash returns the position!
- this is important to remember, if you want to use FamiLeash to find a stolen or missing phone!
- be careful to type the right phone number or FamiLeash will send text messages to the wrong person/phone!
- FamiLeash is dependent of the GPS and/or network reception.
- FamiLeash can't be more precise than the phone, network and GPS reception allow!
- FamiLeash will try for about 10 minutes to get a good positioning. If it can't, it will return the last known position or 'GPS unavailable'.
- if the phone has been shut down, and it is restarted whithin the selected duration and interval,it might send a position right away.
- The Android system can choose to use all resources for the main system (eg. phone calls).In this case FamiLeash might not send a position at the selected duration, but will try again next time.
